Hmm what exactly does the leaf mean???

Ah Milano....we have an Apartment! :D Wahoooo! What a relief! No more living out of suitcases, smelly, wrinkly, smushed clothes, sleeping on "porch like cots", or sharing 5 square feet of space with 4 Americans! That’s something to celebrate in and of itself!!

The apartment is actually very pleasant, w/ 4 bedrooms! :) Room for quests, as well as Corey and I to have our own rooms! Yet, there are some things we have found quite intriguing to say the least, such as the washing machine! Picture, four American people squished into a closet i.e. the laundry room) like sardines, crisscross-apple sauce, scratching their heads trying to figure out how in the world the washing machine works as of course...it’s in Italian! Surprise, Surprise! And the only thing we have to go off of is the millimeter size pictures next to the words, a leaf, a tree, a racecar, and a caution cone. What do those mean exactly?? Needless to say we still haven't really figured it out..After 4 and a half hours (no exaggerations, seriously) we got the washing machine to actually stop! But it's not like the 4 hour load washed all of our clothes, or half...or a quarter...or an 8th...more like 3 pairs of underwear and a pair of socks. Not even joking! After 4 hours of starring at clothes spinning around in a washing machine, we actually got 3 pairs of my dad's underwear clean and washed! Only to be hung dry...because Italians couldn’t use a dryer or anything that would make too much sense or something.

Oh and our car...a "Fiat Panda”  ...more like a shoebox, and cheerios for wheels.  Try putting 4 small, but U.S sized suitcases in a shoebox, and fit four people inside as well...yup, you might have the picture. Classic. And Corey's knees in his chest because the back seat has about 6 inches of space for 5 feet of legs..Priceless!

Allora...or trip to the "Esse Lunga" or supermercato. So after walking a quarter of a mile, in the pouring rain, we did bring 1 umbrella! 1 umbrella...for four people. We made it to the store! We began our journey by getting two little hand carts and entering the store. We stop in the fruits and vegetables and make our way quickly to the cereal, to find something with "Honey" in the name! Me: "Mom look it says Honey!...Maybe like Honey nut Cheerios!" Mom: "Sweet, throw it in the cart" Me:"Oh but we'll need milk..." Mom: "hmmm I'm sure we'll find some!" As we continue down the store, we stop at the milk which is very interesting...almost kind of refrigerated but not nearly like we're accustomed to, and of course all writing is in...wait for it..wait for it...Ding, ding, ding! You guessed it! Italian! So we couldn't seem to figure out which was skim, 2%, whole, cream, whipped cream, straight cow something or other, you never really know what you're getting! So we decide we'll come back to the milk. By this point our little European size hand carts are overflowing because we have cereal and a package of lunch meat, so, we need as my mom would say a "roll-y push cart". So we send Corey after one only to return saying, they cost 1 euro. And all I have is dollars. So we continued on with our hand carts and made do. Next item on the list, looking for laundry detergent, ah that looks like laundry detergent..50 euros for a bottle...hmmm seems a bit excessive. Let's see what else we find. We continue for a while until we find the cleaning supplies aisle! Wahooo! Find something that has a shirt on the label, smells like laundry soap, doesn't cause 50 euros throw it in the cart! Next...Dish detergent, hmm, me "oh this looks promising!" Dad, "idk...that might be bleach." Mom, "Did u read the label??" Me, "It's in Italian, mother..but it has a cup and a plate on the label!" Dad, "Good enough for me..put it in the cart". We continue our trip look for "some kind of pasta", tomatoes, butter, bread, seasoning etc. Corey says...what r we doing for dinner??? Me "Pasta, Tomatoes, seasoning, we'll figure it out :)" Corey..."oh boyy......". Eventually we find pasta, and ditch the blanching tomatoes idea for something more along the lines of "Preggo". Find some kind of Peanut Butter type substance, Jelly, bread, and cookies! Oh shoot...Milk! For the cereal...Corey which milk should we get?? Corey, "Well I've been watching and everybody gets Pink" Me, "Sweet...grab the milk with the pink lid and lets get out of here". We check out, grab all our bags, make the trek back to the apartment, in the rain of course! And put the food away only to discover we're too tired to make spaghetti, and would prefer peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with cookies! It's was quite refreshing and homey, and one of the best PB & J sandwiches I'll probably ever have! But it definitely had a weird Italian twist...But hey, we're in Italy, what do u expect??
